Rome Part 1

Most of you know that Mike and I slipped away for a long weekend in Rome this weekend. It was Mike’s birthday and Italy has been at the top spot on his travel list for a while. So I decided to overcome my aversion to trip planning and get us the heck out of London for his birthday! We had such a great time. October is the perfect time to go becuase though it is still tourist season kids are back in school and it isn’t so blasted hot. We flew in Friday morning and spent the day walking around and seeing the sites.

First we had lunch on the Spanish steps.

We bought sandwiches at a little deli and just sat and enjoyed the sunshine! My sandwich:

We spent the afternoon walking around the city. We had never seen any of it so every corner was a surprise. We saw lots of monuments and churches and things that we felt were pretty famous but we didn’t know what they were- as with Greece, both of us were wishing that we had paid more attention in world history class in high school!

Here’s how I like to see cities: walk a little, have breakfast, walk a little, have coffee, walk a little, have lunch, walk a little, have coffee, walk a little, have gelato, walk a little, have dinner, walk a little, have dessert, walk back to the hotel. Luckily Rome is the perfect place for that! We decided to have coffee at the Piazza Navona

Other sights from our exploring:

Creepy fountain

Ruins in the middle of the city. Can you see all the cats?

I’ll post more this evening!!
