Apparently the day that we think of as Fat Tuesday is also International Pancake day!! It is a tradition to get rid of all the sugar and flour and butter and other good stuff before Lent. They set up displays at the supermarket with pancake fixins and pans and everything! We are not Catholic or Episcopal but we do love pancakes so what to have for dinner tonight was an easy decision. Pancakes in the UK are usually more like crepes rather than the fluffy goodness that you would get from IHOP or Roys. I decided I wanted to cook UKish pancakes but I did not have time/feel like trying to learn. We picked up one of those shake and make pancake mixes that they call traditional and it had a picture of the crepe kind of pancakes on the front. I think that you know what belongs on pancakes. Butter and Syrup. What do they think belongs on pancakes? Everything but butter and syrup. So we assembled some of the most popular.
Yes, people put lemon and sugar on their pancakes. They also put Nutella but that is understandable because Nutella is good on EVERYTHING. What is the best way to eat Nutella?
Would you like a tip? When making pancakes from those shake things- make sure the lid is on before you shake between pancakes:
Despite the mess we had a wonderful pancake day supper! I do prefer the US version to the flat dense UK but to each his own!
Happy Pancake Day Everyone!!
