We are back from Barcelona and both totally in love with Spain! There is a benefit to going to a town like Barcelona. There isn’t huge list of things that you feel like you must do to get your money’s worth. There are highlights of things to do just like in every city but there are no Eiffel Towers or Louvre. We pretty much just played in Barcelona all weekend and it was fabulous. We contemplated some art museums and things that required tickets and lines but decided that we weren’t really all that into art and old churches. We would walk and then stop and get a cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and then walk and have tapas and sangria and walked along the beach and had dinner after 9 every night.
We were waiting for our flight and Mike was still all business and Lonon-like:
I however, was ready for the sunshine:
We arrived late in the evening and made it to our hotel and then headed out for tapas and paella!
If you don’t know, Barcelona has amazing seafood. We ate some kind of seafood at petty much every meal and I still want more. My favorite discovery was paella which is a kind of rice dish sort of like risotto. At this restaurant we had black paella. It is rice that has been dyed with the ink of a squid and had lots of calamari in it (it also had scallops). I know it sounds weird but it was absolutely amazing. Mike ordered it and I was skeptical, the words “dyed with squid ink” are not usually a selling point for me.
Mike likes to play with his food!
I will keep posting pictures all week! Now I have to figure out where to buy squid and find a good paella recipe!
