Word Play

London is an interesting place. Right now the economy isn’t doing so hot, but neither is anyone else’s economy. Everyday the paper is touting the latest cuts and layoffs. There are books on making money in a recession and how to live on less and the sales on the high streets get better every day. Mike and I have decided to take advantage of the slump and look at some other places to live. We really don’t have that many restrictions and are hoping to get a few more square feet, a second bedroom that will actually fit a bed and a tiny outside space for the pups. We are willing to move a smidge south to get the extra space. We have met with a few estate agents and seen a few properties. First, I would just like to go on record and say that the letting (renting) system in this country is totally freaking ridiculous. Our estate agent through one agency who has been showing us around is a few french fries short a happy meal. She keeps saying the word ‘massive’ to describe the places that we are seeing or an aspect of the place. She also says it like a valley girl with an English accent. I really don’t understand why she says it, the places she has shown me are many things, massive is not one of them. We pulled up to one and after once again hailing its massiveness, she said, “you might decide that you don’t need this much space.” Then we walked around the choppy floor plan 700 sq ft flat and I was just left wondering if she is speaking in Realtor double speak or if she really thinks this place is ‘massive’ ? I hate dealing with stuff like this because nothing that comes out of her mouth is true. Mike has even less patience with the whole charade. It is actually quite humorous to watch him deal with her. We are just looking leisurely and not in a huge hurry to move and if the last few days have been any indication, it will get more frustrating before it gets better. But maybe by people’s next visits, there will be room for your suitcase in your room! We’ll keep you updated on news.

Obviously they have never been to Texas, 700 sq ft is the size of a decent closet! Have fun!

The definition of an oxymoron – a combination of incongruous words. Looking for a new place to live is fun! Have fun!! jc

I think it is great that you are trying to find more room especially a yard for the pups to go and for you not to have to walk to the park for them to use the potty. They will love having a place to run and play a little.
    Good luck,
    Love you both, Nana
