This week is a little crazy. There are lots of people from Mike’s work in Dallas over here for some work stuff. Was that vauge enough for you? They decided to partake in some West End entertainment last night and we joined in and we all went to see The Sound of Music. I was excited but nervous. The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. Julie Andrew is simply amazing and her work in that movie could never be equaled, but Maria wasn’t who I was worried about. Of all the men in Hollywood and their various roles in the movies, I would pick Christopher Plummer as Captian Von Trapp over Brad/Gerorge/Clive etc etc any day of the week. Mike is aware of my Captian Von Trapp crush and I think he can handle it. So I was weary that anyone on the stage could hold up.
I was right. This was the worst Sound of Music EVER. Maria acted like she had been given giggle juice before the show. The Captain was just bad and he acted like a big arrogant pansy. But for all their faults apart, they were even worse when they were together. There was not one smidge of any spark that would make you even care if they got together in the end or get taken by the Nazis. Dang, that stinks saying that too. I almost never root for the Nazis. The only cute kid was Gretel and that is because there is a law that all 5 year old with braided pigtails must be cute.
There were redeeming qualities to the show. The sets were amazing- especially the mountain at the end of the show. And whoever played Mother Superior should be given a raise. I would sit through it all again to hear her sing “Climb Every Mountain” one more time.
There isn’t much else going on around here. Mike is pretty busy and we are just counting down the days until the pups arrive: 9 !!!!!!!!!!!! I tell you lots of fun things to do while in London so I just thought I would tell you one to avoid. Pay a bit more and go see Wicked or Avenue Q. Or really, anything other than Sound of Music
